Any acquaintance, especially a virtual one, always starts with a series of mandatory questions to establish some kind of context for future communication. You know, the questions taught at any foreign language lessons - brothers-sisters, books-records, dogs-cats...

Leaving sisters and cats out of consideration, I'll still choose this way of telling about myself - a dialog with an imaginary person.

So, let's start.

So who you are, anyway?

Dmitry Jemerov, also called yole in the Internet.

yo-what? Wasn't that some kind of a Spanish name?

Not exactly. It is pronounced more or less as it is written (yoh-leh), with a stress on the first syllable. However, you shouldn't worry much about that - people usually don't call me that in real life. Just remember that I prefer to see that name spelled in all lowercase.

And where does that name come from?

Well, that's long and old story...

To get the names settled out: and why e-side?

To keep it short: everything I do, feel or think can be divided (in a very trivial way) in two sides, which I decided to call the l-side (life) and the e-side (electronic). The former covers my private thoughts and feelings, not to be exposed to the general public. The latter is everything that is initially created to be public and to be shown to people in some way. That includes, obviously, my programming projects, also some parts of my AD&D DMing, some other things... and this site, too.

Moving on through the list. When is your birthday?

February 25, 1981.

Are you still studying?

I've graduated in Summer 2001. St.Petersburg Technical University, economics and management faculty. The topic of my diploma was "Economical estimation for selecting a corporate information systems development organization methodology".

And before that?

And before that, I first studied in a normal school, and then in the Ist St.Petersburg Classical Gymnasium.

Married?

Yes, I've married on April 7, 2002. My wife's name is Marina. No kids so far. :-)

And where do you work?

Since June 16th, 2003, I'm working with IntelliJ Labs, doing user-interface development in C# on a project which has not yet been announced. Before that, I was working in the St.Petersburg office of Vineyard International.

What do you do besides work?

Most of the things I do are in some way reflected on this site. The main hobby is, of course, programming. I play guitar (not too good, and my singing is altogether terrible), and have a habit of transcribing the chords for most of the songs I listen to. I'm also learning to play bass guitar. Besides that, I play and DM in AD&D.

What books do you read?

Until recent time, I've been reading mostly sci-fi and fantasy. As a result, I've read so much fantasy that I got totally sick of it. Reading fantasy in English helped a bit, but now that doesn't really work either. I still enjoy sci-fi, but many of the Russian authors I used to enjoy very much are getting more and more disappointing...

I read few serious books, because most of my reading happens in subway trains on my way to work and back, and such an environment isn't very conductive to serious reading.

And besides that, I read technical books more or less all the time. But this also doesn't get me as excited as it once did.

What music do you listen to?

Mostly rock in all its forms, from heavy metal (Paradise Lost) to acoustic. Most of the groups I listen to are Russian, though. My favorite foreign bands include Metallica, Eric Clapton, Dire Straits, Pink Floyd and others...

Anything else?..
